Reserved for important visitors or for generals observing battles on site,
this is a pair of Chinese Jiaoyi (folding) horseshoe back armchairs, dated
late Qing dynasty or earlier (1644-1912). These are vintage reproductions of the originals, in their design, materials and fabrication process.
They were constructed from Asian Rosewood that is highly prized for its dense grains and dark purplish color. These Classic chairs feature rounded crest rails with out-sweeping hand rests and curved extensions attached to the front legs, back splat decorated with a relief of a mandala of two dragons embellished with binding bolted metalwork, rear legs attached to the front seat rail. The seats were made of diamond pattern woven hemp likely
from a later age and the chairs are overall decorated with brass appliques. These chairs display beautiful aged patina on surface.
