The Manchurian Candidate is a political thriller directed by John Frankenheimer. Based on Richard Condon's 1959 novel, the film is a Cold War-era psychological drama that explores brainwashing, political assassination, and government conspiracy. The story follows Raymond Shaw (played by Laurence Harvey), a decorated war hero who is unknowingly programmed by Communist agents to become an assassin. His former commander, Major Bennett Marco (Frank Sinatra), begins to unravel the sinister plot.
