Vertigo is a 1958 American psychological thriller directed and produced by Alfred Hitchcock, based on the 1954 novel D'entre les morts by Boileau-Narcejac. The film stars James Stewart as retired police detective John "Scottie" Ferguson, who suffers from acrophobia and vertigo after an incident in the line of duty. Hired by an acquaintance to follow his wife Madeleine (Kim Novak), Scottie becomes entangled in a complex and mysterious investigation.
